It split the unallocated space into 300GB/300GB. I did this in GParted and let the distro install wizard auto-allocate. Later, I booted from a Linux LiveUSB to partition, format, and allocate the remaining disk space in preparation for the Linux install. I was using the box for about 3 months in this state with no issues. I did this from the Win 10 partition manager and had no issues after this step. The remaining 700 GB I left unallocated and un-formatted. I shrunk the Win 10 partition from full disk to appx. I am trying to recover the Win partition and install Gentoo. Now I can not boot into, repair, or rescue the Win 10 partition. I used a Linux LiveUSB to attempt the install. The short version is that I have a Win 10 Laptop that I wanted to use as a dual-boot Win10/Linux box. All the above points to a problem with the update server.I have an issue that I hope the experts on the board can help me solve. Other posts note that it can take hours or days to "connect." This has never been the case in the past. Windows 10 prompts and updates, per instructions in the forums. It lists one priority update, which would not download. I then restored a disc image of W7 made at a time when WUD was functioning properly.
The checking process cannot be cancelled without a reboot it's definitely hung. The latest (it's believed) Windows Updater has been installed. The BAT reset file offered by Shaun Brink on the Windows Seven forum and the WUD troubleshooter have both been run. Updates are surely available: MS Essentials virus patterns are pushed No error messages - just a loading symbol. It did this earlier as well, but then began working. After several weeks of normal operation, Windows Update refuses to contact the server.
